# Sparks! A Night of Inspirational Boat Design

Hi, I’m Carl Cramer. I’d like to invite you an inspiring evening the night before [IBEX](https://www.ibexshow.com/) opens, Sparks! A Night of Inspirational Boat Design, powered By PechaKucha. Admission is FREE but registration is required.

If you’re not familiar with a PechaKucha event, you can see some examples here: [www.pechakucha.org](http://www.pechakucha.org/). Briefly, we will have 14 boat designers and visionaries speaking of their approach to a particular design brief of their own. Every speaker will present and discuss 20 slides, at 20 seconds per slide. Halfway through the presentations there will be a networking event and your opportunity to speak with the presenters. This will be repeated at the conclusion of the event.
It’s been four years since I retired as publisher of the marine magazines *Professional BoatBuilder* and *WoodenBoat*, and Show Director of IBEX. I have to confess I miss the marine industry – both the people I worked with, and those who contributed to the magazines and IBEX. So I thought reintroducing a PechaKucha event to IBEX would be one way of expressing my gratitude to you. And I’d like to thank [Tides Marine](http://www.tidesmarine.com/) for co-sponsoring this event with my own small group, [Sparks! Group](http://sparksnight.com/).
We introduced PechaKucha to the marine industry at IBEX in 2011. Since that time, our friends at [Vripack](http://vripack.com/) have been producing their own in the Netherlands the night before [METSTRADE](https://www.metstrade.com/). Last year, they had a full house of 14 speakers and 450 attendees.
I hope you will be able to join us on the evening of October 1st in Tampa. Seating is very limited, so I urge you to register right away.
